New U-Pick Flower Field Progression

A look at the process of creating our new, beautiful flower field.

POSTED AUGUST 6, 2026 • AROUND THE FARM

It all started with a conversation

It all started a year or two ago with a conversation about moving our flower field closer to the parking lot to make it more accessible and manageable in size. We are so happy with the results! Here is a look at the process of creating our new, beautiful flower field.

JANUARY

It started with a map

We drew up a map and ordered seeds for more than 30 varieties of flowers. Graph paper, a pencil, and a whole lot of dreaming about summer.

APRIL

A blank canvas

The area was just a bare field, having previously been part of our corn maze. It’s hard to believe this empty stretch of dirt would be covered in blooms just a few months later!

SPRING

From seed to sprout

We planted the seeds in flats, placed them in the humidity chamber, and moved them to the greenhouse once they sprouted — keeping them well-watered the whole way.

PREPARATION

Prepping the field

The field was tilled, and rows were created and covered with plastic. We also installed drip tape and irrigation to keep everything watered through the season.

PLANTING

Plugs, a tractor & one helpful cat

The flowers were planted using a machine attached to the tractor. The machine pokes holes and adds water while we sit on it and plant the plugs by hand. Sandy’s cat even came out to help!

We tried planting grass seed between the rows, but it was unsuccessful — so we might try clover next year.

STRUCTURE

Fences, arches & netting

We put up fencing and arches, and applied netting to some of the rows to help the flowers grow upright — so every stem is long, straight, and bouquet-ready.

NOW • IN BLOOM

Stop by and pick a bouquet!

The flowers are blooming beautifully! It is a continuous process of deadheading and weeding, but the results speak for themselves.

The flower field is self-serve and open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

We expect to have flowers blooming until our first hard frost, which is usually mid-October.
